What Kind of Sheep are You?

Scripture: John 10:1-18

HANDOUT FOR SERMON: WHAT KIND OF SHEEP ARE YOU?                              October 30th, 2022, Manchester, TN.  9:30 a.m.

INTRODUCTION:  It is very interesting the God compares humanity with various animals that He has created. Among the many animals used in comparison to mankind one will notice how God compares people with “sheep.” In the world of sheep there are 47 different breeds. These breeds are classified into 6 different types. In our lesson today we will be considering the relationship of sheep to their shepherd.  We will also look at interesting facts and strange things about sheep.

Scripture: Numbers 27:16-17, 1 Kings 22:17, Isaiah 40:11, Matthew 9:36, Mark 6:34.

Reasons why Jesus may have used the “sheep” description:

They have not sense of direction. (Isaiah 53:6)
Sheep are defenseless. (Matthew 9:36)
Sheep cannot get up without help if on their backs or injured. (Isaiah 40:11)
Sheep have emotions and recognize their shepherds voice in contrast to a stranger. (John 10:27)
She are not meant to carry burdens. (Psalm 55:22)
Sheep will settle for less, content with filth, lack discernment and judgment. (Psalm 23-a shepherd in absolutely needed.)
Sheep are valuable. (John 1:29O
Sheep can not care for themselves once they are wounded. (Psalm 147:3)
Sheep are more innocent, while goats are independent, strong willed and destructive. (Matthew 25:32)

Scripture: Isaiah 53:6 “all we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned everyone to his own way.”

LESSON:

1.GOD COMPARES HUMANS WITH ANIMALS & JESUS DESCRIBES HIS DISCIPLES AS SHEEP.

Psalm 23 Being the sheep that belong to the wonderful shepherd.

I know my sheep. (The Lord knows you!)
I call my own sheep by name. (The Lord knows YOUR name!)
I lead them out. (He is ready and willing to lead.)
I shall go ahead of them. (He stays close by.)
They will be saved. (He is ready to save them out of trouble.)
They will find pasture. (He provides the need for the sheep.)
They shall have life and have it to the fullest. (The Lord gives your fullness of life.)
I lay down my life for the sheep. (The shepherd gave His life for you.)
I give eternal life. (The Lord is the source of eternal life.)
Not one can snatchy them out of the Father’s hand. (You are safe in the hands of God.)

JESUS THE SHEPHERD THE GREATEST BLESSING YOU CAN HAVE IN YOUR LIFE. John 10:1-18

What kind of sheep? Healthy, obedient, disobedient, allow yourself to be led, take instruction well, fearful, calm, a follower, a lost sheep, refuse His provisions or a lone sheep?

WE NEED A SHEPHERD! We cannot  live well without a shepherd.

Make up your mind and focus your heart on following Jesus, the Shepherd of your soul.
